For Fresh, read flexible! We’re always looking for ways to improve the service we offer every school we work with, and a key part of that is not just listening to feedback but doing something about it.

That’s why, when Havannah Primary School in Congleton wanted to improve the quality of school lunches, they asked us to come up with some Fresh ideas.

After talking to the children, finding out what they liked and didn’t like, as well as the parents and teachers to see what they thought, our team introduced a simple but effective solution.

First, we installed a jacket potato oven serving delicious baked spuds with a range of healthy, nutritious fillings – giving children a different choice of hot meal options every day. And secondly, rather than just provide sandwiches we introduced a full ‘sub’ bar; echoing the popularity of sandwich bars like Subway, and offering a far greater choice for kids, who can combine their favourite fillings with healthy salad on a range of tasty breads.

So far, they’ve gone down a storm with the school, parents and most importantly the children. Already 20 more meals are being served every day, and that trend will no doubt continue as word gets around.

“Fresh Cheshire East Catering’s bespoke service has improved the quality and choice of school lunches for pupils – and the communication between school and caterer has been excellent!,” said Havannah’s headmistress.

The school has even been nominated for a School Catering Award…but as the children at Havannah will tell you, they’re already winners!
